Holy Week and Easter 2020

This year will be very different at St. George’s with all Churches closed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.  We had planned to start a new tradition with our friends at Lowville United Church, gathering at St George’s for Maundy Thursday and at Lowville United for Good Friday.

We cannot be together physically, but we can unite spiritually. This is what we have planned:

Maundy Thursday: A virtual Happy Hour  April 9th at 5 pm:

The members of St George’s Lowville and Lowville United are invited to join in an online gathering using Zoom. It’s easy to Join. Be ready with your favorite beverage – tea, coke, beer, wine, water, whatever and a delicious snack at 5 o’clock. Details will be provided closer to the event.  Please have your sound and camera turned on. We want to see and hear each other.

Good Friday: a Service of Prayers and Reflections  April 10 at 10 am

A recorded service, jointly prepared by both St George’s and Lowville United, will go live at 10 am on our Facebook page and this website, and on Lowville United’s YouTube channel. Please tune in at 10 am so we can feel as if we are worshipping together.  The recordings will remain in place for anyone who cannot view the service at 10 am or who want’s to pray it again.

Easter Sunday: Ring out the Bell  April 12 at 9 am

From our Primate, Archbishop Linda:  “Our communities need a sign of hope – what better sign than the ringing of the bells on Easter morning – loud, long and clear! – we may not be able to gather for worship but we can still proclaim ‘Christ is Risen!’ hour by hour across Canada – at 9 a.m. your local time – Ring the Bells!”

And we will. Tune in to our Facebook page at 9 am on Easter Sunday to see and hear Nigel ringing the church bell, live. This will be followed a  brief period of Prayer in the church.

Our Diocesan Easter service will be at 10 am on the Anglican Diocese of Niagara Facebook page. Our primate, Archbishop Linda will be the preacher.
